报告题目(中文):First principles investigations of spintronic materials
报告内容简介:We develop and apply density functional approaches to address fundamental issues in the development of innovative materials for use in spintronics, quantum information, energy conversion and storage technologies. Explicitly, we study 1) how to use the newly discovered van der Waals (vdW) two-dimensional (2D) magnetic materials to magnetize the surface bands of 2D and three-dimensional topological insulators for the realization of quantum anomalous Hall effect and axion insulator state at a reasonably high temperature and low magnetic field; 2) how to effectively imprint the exchange and spin orbit coupling (SOC) in graphene and its siblings through the proximity effect from atoms, clusters and other vdW 2D materials; 3) how to use the giant electric field at the surface of ferroelectric substrate to manipulate the spin Hall effect, magnetic anisotropy, Rashba SOC and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. I will discuss our results and model analyses for these issues and provide insights for how these physical quantities are linked.
